Welcome to our first newsletter!
Hi, I’m Carol and I am thrilled to connect with you through this quarterly newsletter as the director of Sensia Allied Health.
For those who I have not yet had the pleasure to meet, here is a little introduction about me and the journey of Sensia. I am a mother of 4 young children and have over 14 years experience as an occupational therapist across both private and government sectors. I started this business in 2014 where i began seeing a few clients in their home and community and have grown the business to a team of over 30 dedicated and passionate therapists and office staff servicing people across south west Sydney and surrounding suburbs. Our reach extends beyond the clinic walls to the homes, schools and childcares to support transitions and skill development across all environments.
It’s an honour to lead such a dynamic team and be part of a community dedicated to innovation and growth. My journey has been an incredible ride filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons. From growing my own family, to the commitment to growing the business, every step has shaped my understanding of our industry and the unique needs of our clients.
Throughout this journey, I’ve witnessed the evolution of Sensia from its humble beginnings to the thriving company it is today. Our commitment to excellence, coupled with a relentless pursuit of innovation and having an amazing team supporting my vision every step of the way has been the driving force behind our success.
I am excited to continue our legacy of growth and exploration. With your unwavering support and dedication, I am confident that we will reach new heights and achieve even greater milestones.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Here’s to the exciting adventures that lie ahead!
– Carol
Groups
Our therapists have been out and about conducting groups for all ages.
Our Lunch Bunch group, headed by our Speech Pathologists, enabled our clients to socialise outside the walls of the clinic in a restaurant environment.
Our clients enjoyed a meal with each other and practiced social skills in a variety of ways such as playing card games, reading and comprehending menus at the restaurant, paying and ordering food and conversation skills.
Our Speech Pathologists recently hosted a Movie Club group, focused around social interaction, comprehension and story-telling skills.
Our clients enjoyed an episode of Phineas and Ferb together and then were asked to break it down using Wh-questions (Who, What, When, Where, Why) before practicing their sequencing skills.
These activities help children build their social skills and construct their story-telling abilities. As with all cognitive exercises, expelling this creative energy is important, so we also stimulate engagement by including arts and crafts in these groups.
Our Occupational Therapists ran a School Holiday Cooking group, making mini pizzas with clients!
Our clients built their fine motor skills, sensory processing, and social skills by performing tasks like spreading sauce and placing toppings. These also improve visual-motor integration and fine motor skills, while including different sensory experiences including touching different textures, smelling ingredients, and tasting flavours.
Additionally, the group setting also fostered social interaction, turn-taking, and communication skills, promoting confidence and collaboration.
Sensia runs groups across each discipline targeting a wide range of developmental milestones. If you’re interested in your child attending one of these groups please click below and we’ll get back to you with what groups are being run across both term and school holiday times.

Leadership Team Notes
Letters from each of our heads of disciplines
We have had a very exciting quarter. Three of our amazing therapists completed their DIR floortime training and are now floortime therapists who are ready to incorporate this into their sessions. We are working on diversifying and supporting the wider community through up skilling in bathing equipment and mobility equipment to better support our clients.
– Rochelle, Occupational Therapists Team Lead
The speech team had a smooth start to 2024, with 3 new speechies joining our Speech Team.
We have been busy working collaboratively with our local Preschools to provide Community based free speech screeners to children ages 3-5. “Getting in early” has always been our key take home message to share.
Along with that our speech team have been working excitedly on preparing for the Movie Club and the Lunch Bunch groups for the school holidays. it’s packed filled with excitement and fun experiences while focusing on building speech, language and social communication skills.
Last but not least for our first quarter is embracing and upskilling our knowledge and understanding of “what is” and “how to support” Gestalt Language Processing (GLP). This is to ensure we are keeping up to date with current research and providing best evidence based practice for our families.
– Ling, Speech Pathologists Team Lead
The physiotherapy team has had a successful start of the year in creating and running groups in collaboration with the Speech Pathology team in targeting coordination, strength, balance and gross motor skills with in a social setting.
We are looking forward to running more physiotherapy groups throughout the year with our Sensia Sports groups that focus on sports specific drills and skills. We are also excited to be expanding our services to work with more clients of diverse populations and are currently welcoming any referrals.
– Jura, Physiotherapists Team Lead
The Behaviour Therapists have been working hard this term to increase their clinical skills by accessing external supervision to keep updated with the latest evidence-based practices and discuss key concerns.
They have also introduced a new group program called Get GRIT. This is a 10 week program which targets building persistence and confidence, emotional resilience, positive relationships and developing a positive mindset. This will be running again in Term 3.
The Behaviour therapists plan to continue outreach to local schools and preschools with more information to come!

Behind the Scenes
What have our therapists been up to?
In addition to discipline specific training, our staff have undergone many collaborative sessions for building skills such as time management, client experience and marketing skills.
We built upon many of these on our first team reset of 2024, a day jam packed with both fun team bonding activities and educational inservices. Our resets are important for our team to connect, build on our wonderful team culture and transfer new skills to help better our client experience and journey.
